The General Managers House was built for the mine manger in 1948 and is one of the two remaining cottages from the early days of Glen Davis on the property. They are equipped with wood combustion fires and the kitchen is of a modern construction as as such has all the necessities to ensure you enjoy your stay here. There are four bedrooms with one room with double bed and the remainder have twin single beds.

The importation of Oil for both domestic and industrial applications in Australia has been a source of pain for Australian Governments because of the uncertainly factor in loosing control of a vital power and energy source. The search for Oil shale goes back to the the early 19 hundreds and there are many reports that detail the rise and fall of many of these discoveries from Mittagong  to parts of the Northern districts.

Walk around the 300 acre property (Show picture) The cottages at Anderson Square are located 300 meteres from the front gate and there are several walks that will give you access to the Oil Shale ruins. Here you can see the remains of the old processing plant including the workshops, Power house, fracking plant, tank farm, retorts and a vast number of other buildings connected with the retorting and processing of shale oil. You could spend days here exploring the vast network of the origina pant.

Every Saturday subject to weather, we run a tour of the works area starting at the front gate. The walk takes between 2 and 3 hours and covers most of the old relics of the National Oil Company. The first elevated levy bank which was build as a means to limit the flooding of Glen Davis which in the 1940’s was quite common. Here we can see some of the original Houses at Anderson Square which are now used for accommodation and some of the amenities block plus tennis courts bowling greens etc.
